Workforce redesign will play a pivotal role in the collective ambition for greater integration and better care and delivering the vision for ‘one workforce’. Finding new ways to utilise the NHS workforce is crucial in addressing efficiency challenges, improving service delivery and delivering better outcomes for patients.

Arden & GEM provides Workforce Redesign support that allows greater flexibility and innovation in service delivery models. Our expertise promotes multidisciplinary collaborations across health systems that can deliver efficiency while improving access to care and the outcomes achieved. We provide a reliable picture of the current workforce at either organisation, pathway, place or ICB/system level. Working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, we then establish your future workforce needs, mapping out any gaps and supporting the development (and delivery) of action plans to rectify potential resource issues at both an organisational and pathway level.

We can help your organisation or system adapt its workforce to better serve the changing needs of your population, improve productivity and deliver a sustainable use of NHS resources.

Our Workforce Redesign support can ensure that your staff are in the right place to deliver care at the right time. This draws on a range of service elements including:

  • Understanding current resources: Providing a clear understanding of where all people resources sit within a particular pathway or service, enabling you to understand the gaps and where there are opportunities for greater collaboration or efficiencies in working
  • Planning new care pathways: Redesigning new care pathways from a people perspective, co-ordinating with subject matter experts to agree the skills, competencies, qualifications and staffing numbers required to meet the organisation or system need
  • Modelling workforce gaps and remedial actions: Using the NHS six-step methodology for strategic workforce planning to highlight workforce gaps before utilising this information to deliver a remedial action plan
  • Implementation support: We also provide specialist additional support in the areas of recruitment, up-skilling and professional development.

Why Arden & GEM?

Arden & GEM has a proven track record of supporting organisations and systems in pathway redesign. For example, we have provided support to the redesign of stroke services across multiple health systems and have supported 15 systems to develop workforce plans for transforming care.

We have extensive experience of working collaboratively to redesign services and pathways based on national and regional guidance and best practice. This enables systems to deliver services closer to home and where expertise exists, enhancing patient care by removing artificial barriers between organisations and sectors and improving efficiency by reducing duplication, and enhancing delivery.
