Our Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes Pharmacist - Jenny Desborough, has been invited to speak at two virtual conferences - The NHS Patient & Staff Safety Virtual Conference and the PM Academy Webinar.

At the NHS Patient & Staff Safety Virtual Conference Jenny will talk about improving patient safety through annual care home medication reviews, an initiative which Arden & GEM and Norwich CCG won an HSJ Patient Safety Award for last year.

The Conference which takes place over two days between 11.30am and 3pm on Tuesday 23 June and Wednesday 24 June, will discuss some areas of concern highlighted by the recent COVID-19 outbreak and the innovative and forward-thinking technology and services helping to counter these issues and improve both NHS staff and Patient safety.

At the PM Academy webinar Jenny will be sharing her experience of running a medication review service for care home residents.

As the proportion of older people affected by multiple health problems and living in care homes rises, it is essential that care home residents are supported to achieve better outcomes by optimising the use of their medicines.

In Norwich, this support was provided by our Medicines Optimisation team, which designed an annual medication review programme. These holistic reviews were conducted as part of multidisciplinary sessions at each participating care home.

Following five years of operation, Jenny shares the aims, process and results from this initiative as well as discussing the current and potential benefits for patients, clinicians and the wider local health economy.
