The NHS Net Zero ambition cannot be achieved without the support of suppliers from the life sciences sector. Medicines and devices account for a quarter of all of greenhouse gas emissions in UK healthcare. Yet, currently carbon data is disparate, audits are largely manual and ROI is unquantified. In short, carbon considerations take place after a product is launched rather than as part of its development.
To help address this, by April 2028 every NHS procurement will demand a carbon impact statement for each product being bought. The NHS and life sciences sector need to work together to ensure that not only are carbon impact statements in place, but that they are accurate, verifiable and aligned with provider methodology.
By 2028, we need:
- Real-time, pathway level CO2 dashboards
- Pre-launch net zero dossier submissions
- £2-3 in savings for every £1 invested.
What will I learn?
This knowledge sharing event will bring together senior contributors from the NHS, global life sciences companies and academia to discuss the challenges and successes in reducing carbon emissions. You will also hear about:
- Powerful examples of partnership working which have reduced pathway emissions and costs
- Exciting capabilities of the Net Zero Health and Care Pathway Tool which is already helping to measure emissions and predict the impact of change programmes
- The benefits of net zero for patients, health systems and industry.
- Expert Insights and Networking: Gain insights from senior leaders on transitioning to real-time CO₂ dashboards and integrating net-zero dossiers in submissions. Network with professionals to share best practices for data management and sustainability reporting
- Case Studies: Understand the financial and operational benefits of strategic carbon reduction investments through real-world examples like Treat-and-Return Primary PCI in cardiology. Learn how these investments can yield significant financial returns.
Who should attend?
Anyone working within the life sciences sector or NHS who is responsible for or interested in reducing greenhouse gas emissions within products and/or pathways.
